Curriculum:
Our Mandarin curriculum is based on ACTFL language standards (American Council on The Teaching of Foreign Languages) and Common Core State Standards are integrated into to the curriculum.

Transitional Kindergarten
Our full day Mandarin Immersion TK program offers a joyful, play- based learning experience where young learners build strong social skills, character, and confidence. Students attend from 8:00 a.m. to 1:45 p.m., with optional morning and after school extended care available on campus for an additional cost.

In this nurturing environment, children are immersed in the Mandarin language, with 80 percent of instruction in Mandarin and 20 percent in English, helping them develop a natural ear for the language through engaging, hands on activities. Learning comes to life through songs, dance, art, movement, and play, fostering creativity, curiosity, and a love for learning in both languages.

Grades K-1:
Academic subjects taught in Mandarin (literacy, math, science and social science). Traditional characters are introduced. English literacy and oral language development are taught daily.

Grade 2:
Most academic subjects are taught in Mandarin and there is the continued development of English reading and writing. Students will develop their literacy skills through both Mandarin and English learning.

Grades 3-5:
Instruction in academic subjects is evenly balanced between English and Mandarin. Students in third through fifth grades begin to develop skills in Pinyin(written expression through technology).

Transitional Kindergarten (TK)

Transitional Kindergarten (TK)

Bergeson's TK program follows the (80/20) Mandarin Immersion model. The teacher and  instructional assistants are fluent in Mandarin.  Our TK Program is one of two, full-day TK programs in Capistrano Unified School District.

TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN
Capistrano Unified School District began offering the Transitional Kindergarten (TK) program in the fall of 2012, as an outcome of the SB1381 legislation or the Kindergarten Readiness Act 2010. Transitional Kindergarten is the first year of a two-year kindergarten program Currently, Transitional Kindergarten is offered only at select school sites throughout the District and not every campus, however TK will be offered at every school campus beginning in the 2023-24 School Year.

The age requirement for Transitional Kindergarten for the 2026-2027 school year is that children must turn 4 years of age by September 1, 2026.

Children who turn 5 years old by September 1st may apply for Kindergarten.

Currently, our District will not admit a child whose fourth birthday falls after the TK-eligible window; for children who turn 4 years old after the TK eligibility window, enrollment in one of the Early Childhood Programs' preschool classes is currently recommended.
